Market Acceptance Testing
Planning a beta test or market trial? Get more from your investment with our Market Acceptance Testing service. Use the power of server logs and text messaging to get highly contextual use and usability data.
Each time the user performs an action of interest, we log it and measure it. When relevant, the system sends out a text message to the user with a short voice, web, or text survey regarding the task being attempted. This enables elicitation of user feedback while in the field, in context, having just attempted a task.
While standard usability testing gets information about the ease of use of a controlled set of tasks in a controlled environment, this process tracks usability of an uncontrolled set of tasks as a function of time and frequency of use. Model how users develop expertise; correlate how perceived usability relates with future task frequency.
Next Steps
To proceed, you’ll need:
- An application with server-based events *
- The ability to correlate user tasks with server events, perhaps through increasing event logging
- Test participants who have opted in to receiving survey messages

* Note that while this technique can be used for local applications, we recommend avoiding doing so. The processor, code complexity, and connectivity costs associated with this technique will hamper the user experience, quite possibly for all users and not just test participants. At best, your data reliability is lower. At worst, your application no longer meets user needs.
